Manitou Mkwa Singers

Drum Song

Manitou Mkwa Singers (Spirit Bear Singers), a family hand drum group from the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, specialize in pow-wow and round dance songs. Their name, "Manitou Mkwa," is tied to their Bear Clan heritage. They are active in ceremony and community initiatives, advocating for Indigenous issues, treaty rights, and cultural awareness. Their music aims to uplift spirits and spread positive energy.

Over the past decade, the group has received multiple nominations, including:

2015 Indigenous Music Awards for Best Hand Drum Group

2021 Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Awards (SSIMA) in two categories

2022 Juno Nomination for Traditional Indigenous Artist or Group of the Year
Their album, Songs from the Michisaugiig Homelands (2023), focused on reclaiming their language, Anishinaabemowin, and features a mix of traditional and round dance songs. They have another album with a planned release in June 2025.
